October 19. Matthew ch 13-15
STOP LOOKING BACK
[13] Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,

GOOD DAY. O the havoc looking back can do! If it is a brief looking back that comes once in a while and you quickly take your eyes off it, that is normal and okay however, most people get consciously or subconsciously fixated in the back, I mean on past events. It is funny that it could be past failures or losses or past successes. Like I said earlier, if it is brief looking back to learn a lesson or have a burst of joy, it is okay but not good as a bus stop.
When you are fixated on past events, you will be like stagnant water. Stagnant water breeds all sorts of insects and gets filled with dirt that makes it smell. People are advised to do away with stagnant water to avoid mosquitoes from breeding there. When you get fixated on the past, you actually become irritable to people and you cannot progress. Many people find it hard to move on after a loss especially of someone dear to them. The way to go about this is 1. Realize what other objectives you are yet to fulfill. Possibly write them down.
2. Decide that you have to get up and start working towards the objectives or goals. You will realize that the moment you start, help will be sent to you from God. Both visible and invisible help will come your way.
Also realize that no one can move forward without falling if he keeps looking back. You can’t look forward and backward at the same time. If you notice that you are not making any progress, check where your focus is. It may be a past event giving you fear or a success deceiving you.
Today’s exercise is to notice what you always consider. What feeling do you get while considering it? Write it down. See how it affects you and what you can do about it.
