DRAWING NEAR TO GOD
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8 ESV
GOOD DAY: The farther away you are from a person, the more difficult it is to know the person. You know a person from their words and actions. Thank God for technology that has improved contact but even with that, it is not like living with someone. As it is in the natural so it is in the spirit. Your heart has to be close to a spirit for you to hear that spirit and for the spirit to hear you.
Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
Proverbs 1:24, 28 ESV
Even the devil flees from you when you resist him. When you know a person very well, you can act for that person with little difference in what he will do were he to be the person acting.
How did David earn prophet Nathan’s approval to do whatever was in his heart? “Go ahead and do whatever you are thinking, because the LORD is with you.”” 2 Samuel 7:3. David always thought of God. He hid God’s word in his heart.
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11 ESV
When you store up the word of God in your heart, you become near to God and your natural inclination will be not to sin against Him. His thoughts will be your thoughts because He is with you. When your thoughts vary from His own, He will send blockers your way. When David’s thought was not His thought, He sent Nathan back to stop David. So whoever wishes to hear God should be close to Him in his heart. When I was not conscious of this practice of being close to God, my mind used to free range. When decision time came, I chose the way of least resistance that would give me pleasure. It did not end well. I had no peace. When I learnt this, I made praising God the default state of my heart. I hardly allow my heart to free range and since it has become a habit, seeing God perform on my behalf even without asking has been my experience. Try it and see that it works.
