WHAT IS PRAYER?

February 24.      Judges ch 6-9

WHAT IS PRAYER?

“Like one who grabs a dog by the ears [and is likely to be bitten] Is he who, passing by, stops to meddle with a dispute that is none of his business.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭26‬:‭17‬ ‭AMP‬‬

GOOD DAY. I was reading the collection of sermons of a dear daughter of God yesterday and a sentence she made in passing opened my eyes to another dimension of prayer. It made praying easy and meaningful and enhances a deep relationship with God. She asked the question “What is prayer?” Then she gave the answer “Giving God Permission to Interfere In Earth’s Affairs.” When I pray, I am giving God permission to interfere in my affairs or whatever affair I bring to Him. This definition of prayer stuck to my mind all day long and I asked the Holy Spirit to tell me why and how this is so. Proverbs 26:17 was dropped in my heart. God does not want us to meddle into what we are not invited to and He does not do it either. He reminded me of how Adam blamed Him for giving Adam a wife or helpmeet. “He said, “I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten [fruit] from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” And the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me—she gave me [fruit] from the tree, and I ate it.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬-‭12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

I was further instructed that the more mankind leaves God out of the affairs of the world, the more we are on our own. This is because He gave man dominion and authority over the earth when He finished creation. God has power over all things visible and invisible but He gave authority to man. God will not use His power on my behalf unless I give Him authority by asking Him into my affair. He says “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”‭ ‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

I hear His knock when I can not control or have dominion over my world again; when things fall apart. If I ask Him in, then He comes and we solve it together. He is an awesome God. When David saw how great God is yet He gives authority to man he exclaimed “O Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow.”‭  ‭Psalms‬ ‭144‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

In another place he exclaimed  “What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,”‭  ‭Psalms‬ ‭8‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

This thought makes praying a relationship with God where I invite Him to my affairs and we discuss what to do about it together. It also gives me worth and high self  instead of how people think it is only the weak or lazy that prays.

PRAY: Dear Lord, thank You for Your interest in me and my affairs. Help me to ask You into my life and affairs all the time.
