                      LIFE

“Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.””  Luke 12:15 NIV

GOOD DAY: I have always wondered why Jesus would say a man’s life is not measured in the abundance of his worldly possessions yet man struggles and labours to acquire them. We amass things and even make enemies because of possessions and inheritance! What an odd world. Not too long ago, a very wealthy young bank chief executive was on the way to watch American football when his helicopter crashed killing all of them onboard. He left all the wealth and the following week, another person was appointed to take his position in the office.

What then is life?

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James 4:14 NIV

I was shocked when a man of God was asking members of his  congregation if any of them would like to die poor. There was a loud no. Then he asked how many of them would like to be rich and die rich, the shout of YES shook the ground. He charged them to work hard and copy the example of another man of God who lives a super flamboyant life. Life is not measured in possessions. Life is a mist, a breath that can disappear any minute. When its giver comes to take it, your possessions or lack of it can do nothing to stop Him. This is the reason we are to love God and love our neighbours as ourselves because that is the real content of our life. God is Love and knowing Him is eternal life. Tomorrow, God willing, we shall look at God’s perspective to worldly possessions.

PRAY: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, may outward possessions not be my essence but knowledge and love of You and my neighbour.

Yes, we should strive to first be rich spiritually than to be physically rich on earth. The rich man In the parable in the book of Luke was rich on earth but poor spiritually and lost his eternity with Christ.
Seeking first the kingdom of God and it’s righteousness should the major focus of the believer to be rich towards God above everything else.
