December 18. Hebrews ch 11-13
THE FIRST GOD’S KINGDOM RULE
“Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”” Matthew 22:37-40 NIV
GOOD DAY: Yesterday, we ended with the question of taking stock of how much of the law of the universal kingdom of God that we know. Hearing Jesus silence the teachers of the law with His exposition of the Kingdom of God, one of them asked Him which is the greatest of the rules in the kingdom of God. Jesus answered that the first and greatest and greatest commandment is to love God and the second which is like it is to love your neighbour as yourself. LOVE is the rule in God’s kingdom. First love God with the whole of yourself and love your neighbour as yourself.
The acid test for LOVE is how you love your enemy. Listen to Jesus; “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:44-48 NIV
Can you treat your enemy like you would like to be treated if roles were reversed? Can you give food and water to those who persecute you? The more we practise love, the more peace and joy that we have both individually and as nations. These are practical steps to love;
1. “Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.” Proverbs 17:9 NIV
2 “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.” Proverbs 10:12 NIV
3 “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”
1 Peter 4:8 NIV
As you look into your life, see how much you have loved and decide whether to love or not.
PRAY: Dear Lord, as man, it is not easy to love like you demand but with Your Holy Spirit, I can. Fill me with Your Spirit Lord and make me love as You love.
