a matter of soil

A MATTER OF SOIL

[3] “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. [4] As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. [5] Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. [6] But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. [7] Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. [8] Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.” Mark 4:3-8 NIV

GOOD DAY: Have you ever wondered why people get different results while living in the same place under the same environmental conditions and opportunities? This parable of Jesus gives a good insight into how our lives turn out. The word from God is sent out to the whole world everywhere like the air. Jesus is not just talking here about bible quotes, He is talking about words that pertain to our living and survival. It will not just be through someone talking to us but also through ideas that enter our minds or heart. Each person has various ideas entering his mind daily. The idea enters many if not all minds but the way each person takes and processes it is different.

There are four ways to take in the ideas;

  1. Some fall by the wayside. It enters from one ear and goes out through the other and doesn’t benefit the receiver.
  2. Some receive it into a rocky heart where it stays and with shallow understanding. When the receiver meets with difficulty, he considers it as impossible and dumps it.
  3. The third type of receiver are those who take the ideas, understand it and set out to pursue it but the many other concerns in their hearts choke out the idea and it can’t yield fruit. All these three types of receivers are the majority that complain about the economy, bad government and other adverse conditions.
  4. The fourth type of receiver, however, takes in the idea, understands it and sees a future in it. He patiently pursues it, not minding obstacles until it starts yielding. This is the reason between all of us being different while subject to the same conditions. The fourth group with receptive hearts nurtures the idea until everyone sees the result. Choose what type of heart you have and measure it against your state, then see if you need a heart change.

PRAY: Dear Lord Jesus, renew my heart to pick the ideas that You release every day for my survival. Help me to know that You will never leave me without a means to live in Jesus’ na
