April 16. 1 Kings ch 3-5
HOW IS THE SOUL FED
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” John 6:63 NASB
GOOD DAY: Talking about feeding, I want us to picture something that will give meaning to what we shall learn. A child or even an adult has diarrhoea. As soon as he eats, he goes to the toilet to poop and probably vomit. No food stays in his tummy to be digested. We all know what will happen to this person over time if the situation is not arrested. It is the same with the soul. There is also the saying that we are what we eat. It is the same with the soul. Your soul is what you feed him with.
Soul food is the WORD. The word that the soul hears and retains determines whether he will be healthy or sick; whether he will prosper or be poor. Word for the soul can come from two sources as we see in Genesis ch 2 and 3. The first source was God at creation. He breathed into Adam’s nostril the Word of life.
John 1:1 CEB “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” God breathed the Word into Adam.
The second source is Satan. He deceived man to disobey God to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil leading to death. From then on, the man had his default state reset to death. Man became separated from God.
The implication is man has to choose whose word he feeds his soul with. If it is the word of God, the soul grows and matures more into God. If he feeds the soul with words of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, then the soul dies. For any word to affect the health of the soul, it must be retained and digested by the soul. Digestion is through thinking.
”For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you.” Proverbs 23:7 NASB1995.
Tomorrow, we will see some scriptures that instruct on how to make the soul prosperous so our whole being will prosper.
