HOW TO STUDY THE BIBLE
““Well,” they answered, “are you also from Galilee? Study the Scriptures and you will learn that no prophet ever comes from Galilee.”” John 7:52 GNT
GOOD DAY: We are working on the believer pursuing knowledge of God and His word and precepts for freedom from shepherds who can manipulate them and keep them in bondage. For some time, I didn’t know how to study the scriptures and have first hand knowledge of God until one pastor said something while preaching and my mind was so agitated that I raised my hand up and said he was wrong. I argued with him that day on a moral basis and the incident prompted me to study the scriptures.
While the Pharisees wanted to challenge Nichodemus who was one of them, they asked him to search the scriptures and see if a prophet ever came from Galilee. If a man of God brings up some scripture or doctrine, it is your duty to search the scriptures and see if he is correct in literal meaning and context before you take it in.
How do you study the scriptures? The first step is to decide to study then ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to behold wondrous things from the word.
“Open my eyes, so that I may see the wonderful truths in your law.” Psalm 119:18 GNT
Choose the topic or key word that you want to study.
Get your concordance. If you are using the hard copy of the bible, you can either get a hard copy concordance or use the limited one at the end of the bible but if you are using the electronic bible, use the search function of the bible app. Look up the key word and everywhere it appears in the bible will be listed then begin to read them in the context of which the word was spoken. It is not usually a one day job you will have to continue until you have seen what God is saying under various conditions. This will enable you to know the truth that empowers and makes you free. Believers should be like the Berean Christians. “The people there were more open-minded than the people in Thessalonica. They listened to the message with great eagerness, and every day they studied the Scriptures to see if what Paul said was really true.” Acts 17:11 GNT
PRAY: Dear Lord, make me open-minded to study the scriptures and know what is really true.
