June 5. Psalms ch 70-72
WHERE IS YOUR FOCUS (2) YOUR INTERPRETATION
So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size. There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
Numbers 13:32-33 NASB1995
GOOD DAY. Twelve people went up to spy the land of Canaan and we have two sets of reports from them. We are going to consider the report of the majority first. First they reported about the land. We are not told how they saw the land devour its inhabitants or what brought them to that conclusion or maybe their fears but they gave a report that we cannot verify. They did not consider that the people in the land were big and if the land had consumed them, they wouldn’t grow to be that big. What about you and your life and situation? What are your presumptions that scare you from taking a step forward? Nothing good comes without challenges; other people have been there before who want to remain ever relevant. Not everybody failed in the venture so it does not devour people.
Next they considered the people already there. They were giants. Using today’s various terminologies; great IT gurus too many for positions available; many with the great business ideas and finance to pull it through and swallow beginners or small scale people; popular musicians; accomplished writers etc., and other giants in your field that scare you. Remember that if you are called and attracted to that field, you will be unfulfilled if the giants are your consideration.
Next they considered themselves. They became like grasshoppers in their own sight! They saw themselves really small and helpless. They had given themselves the verdict of failure even before they started. These are the three categories of thought patterns that keep people down at any time in life. Unfortunately, the majority of people think like that and the media knowingly or unknowingly encourage people to think like that.
We shall look at the report of the remaining two spies tomorrow but see if you fall in the group that thinks in any of the patterns above and prepare for a change if you intend to succeed.
PRAY: Dear Lord, help me to step out of the majority thought line and consider the good report of wherever and whatever You inspire me to do or to be.
