of faith presumption and denial (denial)

OF FAITH PRESUMPTION AND DENIAL (DENIAL)

“Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”” Luke 13:4-5 NASB1995

GOOD DAY: Today, we will look at denial. DENIAL is the state in which someone denies his state so he refuses to do anything about it. A person in denial will feel that the adverse effects that happen to others cannot happen to him until his situation is beyond redemption and help is too late just as Jesus told the people thinking they are better than those killed by the tower of Siloam.

The way to get over denial is to acknowledge your state as flesh but use the word of God to bring the state to the obedience of Christ.   “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:5 NASB1995

You have to decide either to rely on God or to take matters into your hands. I remember the three Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego.

“Now if you are ready, at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery and bagpipe and all kinds of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, very well. But if you do not worship, you will immediately be cast into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire; and what god is there who can deliver you out of my hands?” Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”” Daniel 3:15-18 NASB1995

They knew the furnace was hot and it would burn them to ashes if thrown into it. NO DENIAL. They did not assume that God would deliver them but acknowledged that He might not (NO PRESUMPTION). Despite that, they still chose not to worship the king’s image. Even at the point of being thrown in the furnace, they did not waver in their resolve, but went into the furnace that is FAITH. In this story, the three types of man’s dispositions were played out.

PRAY: Dear Lord, grant that I will know You enough to still stand even in the face of death.
