Offering; the purpose

June 25.      Psalms ch 39-42

OFFERING: THE PURPOSE

““Tell the sons of Israel to raise a contribution for Me; from every man whose heart moves him you shall raise My contribution. This is the contribution which you are to raise from them: gold, silver and bronze, Let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them.”

Exodus 25:2-3 NASB 1995

“Everyone who is numbered, from twenty years old and over, shall give the contribution to the Lord. The rich shall not pay more and the poor shall not pay less than the half shekel, when you give the contribution to the Lord to make atonement for yourselves. You shall take the atonement money from the sons of Israel and shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may be a memorial for the sons of Israel before the Lord, to make atonement for yourselves.”” Exodus 30:14-16 NASB1995

GOOD DAY: Apart from those who wrote on the comment sections, I had many calls and posts on my WhatsApp page that tithe should go to the church and that it should not be played with. That we should give God tithe, there is no argument about that. What should be done with the tithe and who can take it is the issue.

Some claim that tithe is used to run the church and fund projects; that is not true. From the scriptures above, God clearly said how projects should be funded and the sanctuary maintained. OFFERINGS ARE TO BE COLLECTED FOR BUILDING PROJECTS AND REGULAR CONTRIBUTIONS ARE TO BE USED TO MAINTAIN THE BUILDINGS.

Let us not mix things up. When you have tithe, put it aside from your house and ask God how He wants the money disbursed. Tithe that is not eaten is offensive to God. This is why we need to read the whole Bible. Create time to do it. Read Exodus to Deuteronomy to understand more about tithe and offerings. When we were young, the Orthodox churches had envelopes for all adults for the various projects in the church. There was one for regular contributions for church Maintenance. Tithes were sent to poorer churches to assist with upkeep of the workers and the poor there. Reports were read every week of collections and how they were disbursed. There wasn’t much begging in those days as the tithes were used to meet the basic needs of members who went to the vicar and people were content with what they had and happily went to church.

Please be the captive of the Holy Spirit and not captive of any man or doctrine. Learn to talk with Him and understand His language as He speaks with you.

We shall treat practical ways to listen to the Holy Spirit from tomorrow. God be with us.

PRAY: Dear Lord, I pray that you make me willing to listen to You. You do not need our silver and gold as they belong to You; You gave guidelines to manage them for our good and the good of our fellow man. Please make the leaders and members of the church understand Your mind on silver and gold and live by it.
