                      PEACE

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:27 NASB1995

GOOD DAY: With the various gospels being preached and ‘unpreached’ with attendant controversies and apologies, one has to know exactly what Christ promised His followers. A Christian lives by his faith in the word of Christ and that is why it is important to know the reward of following Christ here on earth and in the world to come what we can look forward to.

From our scripture for meditation today, Jesus was very explicit in His promise while it was getting near for Him to leave this world. He said ‘My peace I give to you’. What is this peace? He also went further to say ‘not as the world gives do I give to you.’  From the saying of Jesus, we see that PEACE is a gift. It is a spiritual gift that God gives and the world gives its version. Like all spiritual gifts, it cannot be defined but it is felt. The world defines its peace as an idea where there is no conflict or war between people and nations. This peace is transient and depends on who you are involved with at any particular time. It makes your life uncertain and unstable.

Peace of Jesus however is when you are one with God. God is the reference point of this peace. It does not mean the absence of problems or trouble or turbulence on the outside. It is peace with God no matter the state of affairs. It passes all human understanding. This is why a poor man who is in accord with God has peace whereas a rich man out of tune with God does not have this PEACE OF GOD and so has no rest. There may be no turbulence around a person yet inside him he has no rest. As you go through today, notice how you are in your inner person whether it has rest or is disturbed roaming between ideas and fears; and your outer world world whether there is turbulence or conflict. You can write it down so you can assess what the peace of the world and the peace of God is. Tomorrow, we shall hear what God further says about peace.

PRAY: God my Father, thank You that Jesus did not withdraw Your peace when He went to heaven. Teach me how to locate and walk in Your peace at all times.
