Poverty and riches 1

POVERTY AND RICHES 1

““What happiness comes to you when you feel your spiritual poverty! For yours is the realm of heaven’s kingdom.” Matthew 5:3 TPT

GOOD DAY: This is heavy on my spirit now. Yesterday was someone’s birthday and one person special to you did not wish you a happy birthday and you are deeply offended. The Lord is saying to you that you should look at all other birthday wishes you had even from people who you did not expect will remember and rejoice. I don’t know who the person is but on behalf of God, I say HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND YOU ARE LOVED AND BLESSED.

Now to today’s discussion. The word poor or poverty is hated by everyone including me. I tell you, poverty is not a nice place to be. This saying of Jesus that opens the beatitude has often bothered me because it has been applied in a way that has placed many people under pain leading to them hating God yet it is the foundation of all other attitudes in life.  The word poor means destitute, begging, lacking etc. Jesus qualified it by saying poor in spirit. There is spiritual poverty and natural poverty. Spiritual poverty and natural poverty are two different states just like spiritual wealth and natural wealth. Apostle Paul separated the two kingdoms when he said “for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17 NASB1995

God’s kingdom that the poor in spirit inherits and enjoys is not material but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Your natural wealth or poverty has nothing to do with the kingdom of heaven. It is poverty of spirit that makes someone earning so much more than he can ever need yet embezzling more from public funds available to him by reason of his position. So, a rich person in material wealth can be the poorest in spirit without knowing it. A poor person in the spirit lacks peace of mind, contentment, real joy, not appreciative etc. We all know the story of king Nebuchadnezzar who was so rich in material things but very destitute in spirit and his end.

This spiritual poverty is the pandemic of the world now that is claiming more lives than Covid 19. It is the pandemic that mutated to Covid and threatening of new ones. We shall continue this tomorrow but today, assess yourself: ARE YOU POOR OR RICH IN SPIRIT?

The bible says in the last days the love of many shall waxed cold and many shall be lovers of themselves in other words there shall be scarcity of selflessness (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

That’s where the world is right now. Couple of days ago I was ruminating on the messages that were being mostly preached growing up. Messages like, ‘Jesus’ Second Coming’, ‘Righteous Living’ etc. and I wonder what happened to those kind of messages, why aren’t we hearing such anymore in churches?

    God help us.

Proverbs 23:7 : As a man thinketh in his heart,so he is.
We can be physically rich but have a spiritually poverty mentality.
Every man holds the key to every condition, good or bad, that enters into his life. If he works patiently and intelligently on his thoughts, by studying and meditating on the word of God, he may transform his life and transform his circumstances.
