shepherd of your soul

July 6.        Psalms ch 91-96

SHEPHERD OF YOUR SOUL

For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:25 NASB1995

GOOD DAY: Have you noticed that your soul has a shepherd or guardian? Many of us relate perfectly with our five senses but are not conscious of our souls. It is however from the soul that we are guided to move on or stand still or retreat. The shepherd and guardian of your soul could be God or the world with its lusts. God guides and guards with His joy and peace while the world guides with lust and fear. We all know lust (a very strong desire for something) and it feeds on fear and lies.

God guarded and guided the Israelites in their wilderness journey with the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night so that they knew when to move and when to stop. How does He guide and guard us now?

“For you will go out with joy And be led forth with peace; …”  Isaiah 55:12a NASB1995.

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 NASB1995

Joy and peace are the two fruits of the Spirit that Jesus uses to guard our souls now. If you have invited Jesus to be your Lord and Saviour, His Holy Spirit will live in your heart and you would have experienced His peace and joy. These pass human understanding because even in the midst of the strongest storm, you will be able to sleep as Jesus slept in the storm. Doctors have confirmed that peace and joy are displayed by believers even in death. Whenever a believer is about to go the wrong way, he loses his peace and joy. There is an unsettling feeling in his soul that makes him know that something is wrong. Once you come to the right decision that falls in line with the will of God, then your joy and peace return. As a believer, you must pray to know and pay attention to the peace and joy of the Holy Spirit in you and be familiar with them. The struggle and labor should be to know God’s peace and joy.

PRAY: Dear Lord, make me know Your peace and joy so that I can filter my thoughts and decisions through the lens of Your peace and joy.
