July 1. Psalms ch 69-72
SUSTAINABLE HOPE (antidote to depression)
“I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope.” Psalm 130:5 NASB1995
…“and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.”
Romans 4:21 NASB1995
“Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.”1 Timothy 6:17
“Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts perish. How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, Whose hope is in the Lord his God,” Psalms 146:3-5 NASB1995
GOOD DAY: The three scriptures above show the example of sources of hope and the nature of the sources of the three. They are God, money and man.
Hope that is rooted in the promise of God is sure to be performed. I want us to see how broad hope in God extends. “All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.” Hebrews 11:13 NASB1995
God is from eternity to eternity and we shall join Him in eternity if we believe in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our salvation. Whoever has his hope from God has the assurance of a performance of the hope from God who can not lie and who does not deny His word. Abraham is the father of many nations now and the whole world is blessed by Him.
The second is money and I take it to represent all temporal things . “When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.” Proverbs 23:5 NASB1995
Money can fail. It grows wings and flies away. At that point, hope in it is gone.
The third is man. The day a person dies, his thoughts and promises depart with him. Hope in God is the only sustainable hope because He is able to perform even unto eternity. Hope from temporal things fail. Tomorrow, we shall look at the working of hope in God to prevent frustration and depression.
PRAY: Dear Lord, help me to hope in Your word. Life is complex but Your words are simple. Don’t let me despise Your word.
