The temple and the tithe 1

BEGINNING OF TITHE

“And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High. He blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” He gave him a tenth of all.” Genesis 14:18-20 NASB1995

This is referred in Hebrews 7:1-3 “For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace. Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.”

COMMANDMENT OF TITHE

““You shall surely tithe all the produce from what you sow, which comes out of the field every year. You shall eat in the presence of the Lord your God, at the place where He chooses to establish His name, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always. If the distance is so great for you that you are not able to bring the tithe, since the place where the Lord your God chooses to set His name is too far away from you when the Lord your God blesses you, then you shall exchange it for money, and bind the money in your hand and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses. You may spend the money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there you shall eat in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice, you and your household. Also you shall not neglect the Levite who is in your town, for he has no portion or inheritance among you. “At the end of every third year you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in that year, and shall deposit it in your town. The Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance among you, and the alien, the orphan and the widow who are in your town, shall come and eat and be satisfied, in order that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.” Deuteronomy 14:22-29 NASB1995

PURPOSE OF TITHE

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.” Malachi 3:10 NASB1995

GOOD DAY:

WHERE IS THE STOREHOUSE OF GOD THAT HE CHOSE IS TO PLACE HIS NAME?

“For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.” 2 Chronicles 7:16 NASB1995

In bible times Israel, the chosen place where God put His name was the temple that Solomon built.

Tithe was food that the Israelites harvested and it was only turned to money when anyone was far from the temple. He was to carry the money to where the temple was and use it to buy produce then eat and share with others. Tithe was not to be used to build or maintain the temple buildings. It was not to be used to organize any program. Read the scriptures on tithing and know God’s perspective so that you can be blessed. Tomorrow, we shall see the Temple in Church dispensation.

PRAY: Dear Lord, please open my eyes of understanding so that I will know the provisions that You made for Your children.
